Somewhere in the back of my mind, I just knew this was going to happen. I have felt this entire season that USC was an overrated team. Even after they pounded the sacrament out of Notre Dame, their week 10 position of #9 seemed to fit them pretty much better then the #2 spot they just fell from.
USC was up against something they haven’t seen all year…defense…and it left them baffled. It also leaves the rest of us baffled as to who should meet Ohio State in the BCS championship game.
If you were to go strictly on the better schedule, I would say Florida deserves to go. Florida played and beat more ranked teams. Scout.com makes a good case for the FL schedule over Michigan.
However, schedule isn’t everything. It seems pretty obvious that Michigan is the second best team in the country. While Florida did win the SEC championship, the Florida/Arkansas game was sloppy to say the least. At one point, there were 21 straight points on botched turnovers including a beautiful Florida hand off to an Ark player for a touchdown and an Ark fumbled kick-off return in the end zone resulting in a Fl touchdown. Let’s just say that neither team looked like a national championship team.
If the BCS wants the game that is going to generate the biggest hype, the biggest draw and the best matchup, they have to go with University of Michigan. And while I’m not really fond of a rematch, how many times do the Buckeyes get the chance to beat Michigan twice in one season. I can’t think of any team I’d rather see our Bucks crush.
If Ohio State plays Florida, you may get a good game but you won’t get anything close to the monstrosity of an Ohio State/Michigan national championship game. It has never happened before and the odds of it happening again are almost impossible. I am just now recovering from the onslaught that lead up to the OSU/Michigan game Nov. 18th. I don’t know if I could take another month of OSU/Michigan football hype.
Just for giggle and grins…what if UM were to beat OSU in the BCS Championship game? That would make both teams one for one. Does that mean UM is the national champion? Should we play two out of three? Luckily, with Smith and Tressel at the helm, the BCS has nothing to worry about here.
If it was anybody but Michigan, I would predict that Florida goes. However, the BCS likes a good game with lots of publicity and lots of money. In that regard, Michigan wins out big.

Michigan fan to an OSU fan: I hope you guys kill Florida. You guys deserve it and as the SEC having the toughest schedule well leave that to the championship game when the results will tell the story.
what a great year for big ten football
And likewise. I don’t think I have to worry about what you guys will do to USC. While a rematch would have been much more interesting and It gives both of us a chance to prove the Big Ten to any doubters that may be left.
