The Little Sisters of the Poor Have Spoken

TCU Billboard Ohio State Columbus Gordon Gee

Billboard at corner of Grandview Ave and Dublin Rd. Columbus

Reminding everyone that the strength of schedule argument means little, TCU fans raised the billboard above at the corner of Grandview Ave and Dublin Rd. in Columbus. You would think that we could at least count on Wisconsin to help carry the water for the Big Ten but noooo.

I don’t care what anyone says, I like Gorden Gee and I like the way he speaks his mind. I was fortunate enough to attend a party in New Orleans where President Gee was also in attendance. He told the group that he had tape on his ankles in order to keep his feet out of his mouth but come tomorrow (after the game) “I let lose.”

Here’s to the little sister’s of the poor everywhere. I’m sure we’ll be hearing this one for a long time.

Thanks TCU, for contributing to the local economy. He didn’t even make a jab at TCU or Boise State, he said their COMPETITION blows and THEY DO. Minus Nevada anyway, in my own opinion.

We tried to schedule TCU for the 2009 season, but THEY said no thanks. They deserve all the “weak SOS” talk that they get.

Reply

GonzoHog January 10, 2011 at 7:18 am

That weak SOS talk should continue for the Frogs. They may have joined the Big East in an attempt to secure more runs at future BCS bowl games with that conferences bowl alleagence to the BCS, but it doesn’t mean they’re all of a sudden playing their fair share of competition.
The Big East was horrible this season. A 7-5 UCONN team was the best team they had to offer? Really?
OU got a “gimme game” this time around in the Fiesta Bowl, plain and simple.
TCU would have dominated that league this season, and had they already been a member, there would have been another scenario, like in 2004, when OU played USC for the NC, but an undefeated, BCS team like Auburn was left out. Just another good reason why an attempt at a playoff system should take place.

I think TCU will not find it as easy as some might think.
I admit I don’t watch TCU on a regular basis, but I predict they will not have the depth to run the table even in the big east.
They may build to it in time, but I’ll be shocked if they win the conference title in the first couple of years.

On the subject of a playoff. I’d like to see one as well.
But… I also think nothing but conference champions should get in.
Require all conferences to find some way of crowning a single conference champion and then line them all up and let ‘er go.
There are an odd number of Div 1 conferences, so seed them and give the higher ranked teams a bye.
It’s the only way to make sure every school has a chance, so it will never happen.

For all you people meesing with college traditions, I say this:

Take your desire to “bet” and”take the spread” for a “true, clear winner” to the track, to Vegas, to the parking lot of a professional sports team contest — and leave college rivalries to the fan base, alumni, and people wanting to root for “a program” over “a prima donna.”

Leave us the heck alone.

I am off to watch the NC game ……. GO DUCKS BABY!

We will try to pin another one on the SEC tonight. Look for some dirty plays from Nick Fairly. If this game starts to get out of grasp then I expect to see him start taking cheap shots at our QB in an attempt to get him out of the game.

Hopefully we can have a great game like the Rose bowl and Sugar Bowl ……. (really, I want the Ducks to blow them out early so I can relax and enjoy the game).

Note to self : try not to get so drunk that you want to take the Duck behind the middle school and ….

Tony-my condolences go out to you tonite. So close but yet so far. I was pulling for you and your Ducks tonight as hard as I possibly could. I did not want to see the SEC corporation win another NC. Please stay in touch. I hope to meet up with you in person one day in the near future. Go Bucks and Ducks.

thanks Alan ….. I was surprised that Chip Kelly went with such a conservative game plan. How many times do you run it up the middle for a loss or no gain before you figure out that it isn’t working. We had some good ball movement with the short outlet passes …. then went back to what wasn’t working again. It really just did not make any sense to me. The Ducks certaintly can’t blame anyone but themselves here. Maybe next year the Ducks and Nuts can meet in the NC. Cheers

How many times do you run it up the middle for a loss or no gain before you figure out it isn’t working? Ask Jim Tressel.

No question that was a tough loss Tony. I don’t agree that Auburn dominated the game. At the beginning of the game, I was actually impressed with the strength of Oregon’s offensive line. That didn’t seem to hold though.

Also wasn’t overly impressed with Newton although I guess the numbers don’t support my thinking. I guess I was looking more for a qb like Pryor. He was great at falling forward for the first down but it wasn’t what I expected.

Sorry I didn’t post more on the NC game. I have to admit, by the time this rolled around, I was a little burned our. I’ll post more on the NC, post bowl burnout and a new Michigan coach later.

Well, you did get your wish for a good game. Auburn did a good job of making the Ducks one dimensional and it looked like the Ducks never really felt comfortable on offense.
Congrats to the Ducks for getting there and to the Tigers for pulling out the win.

I was kinda shocked when I saw those TCU billboards. I’m sorry but where were the congrats billboards for the Buckeyes?? Please tell me some group of fans put one up. And I must say Gonzo made me laugh by automatically assuming his beloved sec team would win if they had scored after the blocked punt. What an ego. Go Bucks!

Reply

GonzoHog January 11, 2011 at 5:35 pm

It’s hardly an ego. I just seems to me facts are sometimes side-stepped for the better good of one’s agenda for some on this blog.

I find it humorous some will say the SEC wasn’t dominant this season because they finished .500 overall in bowl games, even tough they had more teams in bowls than any other conference (10), had the only 2-loss team in a BCS bowl game, had the only conference out there with 5 wins, with 2 of those being blowouts, 4 of those wins were from one division, and now we have an SEC college football champion (again) for the 6th time in the last 8 years. Who else can even come close to saying that?

Some will say (probably Tony) that last nights game was very close. That’s true if you look only at the scoreboard, but anyone who watched the game knows AU dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball all night long.
AU also shot themselves in the foot more than once. One of those times coming on 4th and goal from the 1, where Newton just simply didn’t step into the pass to the FB diving for the short ball. There wasn’t even pressure on him when he threw it.

All in all, it was a great game though. I hope no one was too shocked the SEC actually won it again. (lols!) Better luck next season and GO HOGS GO, BABY!!!!!

If GonzoHog were a Duck fan ….. his reply to last nights NC game would have sounded something like this: If the Refs would have made a correct call when Oregon intercepted Auburns ball (his elbow was clearly down inbounds on the replay) than Auburn doesn’t score a touchdown a few plays later. If the refs would have called the face mask that Fairly put on James ….. then Oregon would have scored a touchdown. We won’t even talk about the late hits and all. GonzoHog you are obviously a moron ….. the game was tied until the last second field goal. You are further a moron because the only reason the SEC has 10 teams in the bowls is because you play more out of conference patsies than the PAC10. You are a complete moron …… for suggesting a conference that goes 5 and 5 in bowl games is dominate.

Bottom line, the Ducks lost. They were in this game from start to finish and had multiple chances to win. It was a great ride for the Ducks this year and I hope that they get back here again soon. I find it hard to give props to Auburn though ….. the team is full thugs, thiefs, liars, cheap shot artists, and the like. nothing to be proud of on that team (I remember the Jail Blazer era in portland). Auburn won …. good for them ….. now I hope the NCAA strips them of everything and CAM and DAD end up going to federal prision for trying to shake down a public school.

Sort of amazing how we couldn’t see stats from the Ohio State game without a breakout of the Tattoo 5′s performance yet when it came to Newton, it was mentioned once? And when they did talk about it, they talked about how it was all Daddy and not Cam. Poor Cam…he’d been through so much and needed the support of his father who wasn’t allowed to be there. A real tragedy.

Thanks for the quake-attake there doofus. The only thing you managed to accomplish with your idiotic way of thinking is further illustrate how much you really know nothing about the SEC.
Time and time again, you and some others here rant about how tough your OOC schedules are , but fail to understand that when the conference schedule begins, it’s nothing but second-rate, compared to ANY team that plays in the SEC.
I fully understand this isn’t a situation of you failing to see this, but just flat out refusing to.
Year, after year, SEC members have THE toughest SOSs in the nation, but idiots like yourself somehow see fit to bring up “we played Miami”, or “we played Texas Tech” or “we played Blah-blah-blah-blah-blah”.
The bottom line is take whatever token OOC game you want, compare that to playing 7 games like at Georgia, Texas A&M (neutral field) Bama, at Auburn, at South Carolina, at Miss. St. and LSU, all in one season, winning 5 of those games and still having enough depth to simply not fall apart at the seams half way through the season.
I suppose I should just understand your jealousy at not being able to pronounce yourself a part of such a glorious conference, who fields a national champion almost EVERY SINGLE YEAR, so the fact that you try desperately to tear down what has taken decades to build into a dynesty, shouldn’t suprise anyone.
Oh, and by the way, “thugs, theifs, liars, cheap shot artists and the like”? Really?
Is this how far you stoop with your jealousy? Maybe you should take a look at what your team is wearing. Those yellow socks are pretty damn gay. Nothing to be proud over. Oh but yeah, I almost forgot. You westcoast fellas are funny that way.

Seriously GonzoHog …. I am really starting to think you may be pretty stupid. This can’t be spelled out any easier for you. The SEC plays more “out of conference” patsies in order to have enough wins to qualify for bowl games. The PAC10 plays more “in conference” teams ….. this makes it mathmatically IMPOSSIBLE for the PAC10 to be able to send 10 teams to bowl games. Think about it genius ….

A few examples for the idiot:
Thug/cheap shot artist – Nick Fairly (look up youtube against Georgia)
Thief/Liar – Cam Newton (kicked out of Florida for stealing fellow student laptop – Pay for play scam)

Jealous? I would not want my son looking up to Newton or Fairly as role models. And they are the team leaders!

Facts sidestepped…agendas…you are determined to get me fired up.

Let’s take a minute and discuss how 10 SEC teams make it to the bowls. Bowl games are based on a winning percentage. The SEC are masters at scheduling Div II games for the sake of securing their spot in the bowl. Of course, if they actually scheduled decent out of conference games, there wouldn’t be 10 bowl eligible schools in the SEC.

Of course, if they didn’t, we wouldn’t get those November Cam Newton/Chattanooga highlights.

Forget trying to explain the “why” and “how’ to Texas Hog …… he is thick headed and will never understand. Facts and stats only make sense to him if they favor Arkansas or the SEC. Somehow he has connected “10 bowl teams ….. and a 50% win ratio in those bowl games” to mean SEC domination. In reality all this means is the SEC is over rated and over hyped. The ACC went 3-3 (50% win ratio), the PAC10 went 2-2 (50% win ratio), etc. The SEC isn’t as special as TexasHog or the east coast biased media would like to think they are.

The Pac10 schedule plays one less patsie (1 more conference opponent). This would make it IMPOSSIBLE for the PAC10 to be able to have 10 teams reach bowl games.

Why tout an inflated stat??? Thats nothing to be proud about …..

GonzoHog January 12, 2011 at 8:18 pm

Yeah, let’s talk about side-stepping for a minute shall we? How many other conferences have 6-6 and 7-5 records that play piss-ass conference opponents, dropping their overall SOS straight to hell?
Tell me, if you were a bowl representative, who would you take for a Liberty Bowl matchup in any given year? a 7-5 Northwestern vs. 7-5 Maryland with both having one adequate OOC opponent and “fair to middlin” SOS? or would you rather choose between a 7-5 Tennessee team vs. a 7-5 Missouri team with easy OOC shedules, but in-conference schedules that put both of their SOSs in the top 20?
There a hell of a lot more to picking a team to a bowl than just “how many games did they win?”
Your losing more and more credibility with me the farther you go, so I think I’ll put a sudden halt to this goofy charade and call it a year.
It’s been fun.

These SEC guys are really full of themselves. Again, the ability to lose to other teams in your division doesn’t really say much about the SEC. Until they step outside of the SEC once and a while, we’ll be forced to rely on ESPN and the Mark Mays of the world to tell us how good they are.

Since the dawn of the Tressel era, Ohio State has always attempted to schedule at least one big out of conference game before launching into the Big Ten (which up until next year, we don’t have room on schedule for late season out of conference games). Miami let us down but that has been a long desired rematch and they sure were confident coming in. Most of the country seemed to think they were going to give Ohio State a much harder time.

Go back to last year, and you’ve got the two USC games. Yes, we lost but when we did, we knew exactly where we stood. Unfortunately, we don’t get those tests with the SEC. We just have to take your word for it.

Dave Smith January 13, 2011 at 8:13 am

Oh boy.. now I’ve seen it all.
Is that why they are told more SEC teams make it to bowls?
wow.

OK..Lemme explain how bowl matchups are made. Asside from the bowls that are automatically set to take .. say the number 3 ACC team vs the number 3 SEC team.. Can’t look at those because the conferences they pull from are predetermined unless there aren’t enough eligible teams.

Once we are beyond that, they line up all the teams that are .500 or better.
They then pick by one and one factor only.
Who will put the most asses in their seats.
Which translates to which team’s fans will travel best to that particular bowl game.
Asside from the top traveling schools who’s fans will travel to where ever they are playing.. (which have already usually been picked by now) it’s all about location.
Location.. Location.. Location.
Southern bowls attract southern teams in general because the fans don’t have to travel so far.

Stength of Schedule plays absolutely zero part in setting up a bowl game. Selling tickets to the fans of the teams is what it’s all about.

Reply

Jim January 13, 2011 at 10:10 am

Agreed. It’s about putting fans in the seats–one of the big reasons Ohio State has been so popular at the Fiesta Bowl.

The .500 or better is exactly what I’m talking about when it comes to scheduling out of conference teams. SEC obviously doesn’t want to risk a loss when they are so good at losing to teams within their own conference.
