The Legends are with you on this day.
As dawn breaks on this glorious morning all eyes turn west to the granddaddy of them all, the Rose Bowl. For on this day, the men of Ohio will return to that storied battlefield to once again prove themselves worthy of the honor and traditions of The Ohio State University.
Many have gone before and etched their names in the scrolls of history – Morrison, Cassidy, Griffen, Kern, Johnson, Hicks, Germaine and of course, the great Woody Hayes. Today, new names will be added to the list.
Although these mighty warriors have proven themselves in combat, there are still those who doubt. Naysayers who question their steeds, their leaders and their abilities. On this day, the questions will be answered. The doubts will be resolved and they will reclaim the destiny which is theirs.
Their opponent is a wily one clad in the colors of the money changers. Deceit and deception is their strength and it is trickery that has lead them to this point. The world will soon learn that they stand upon false towers. That they have built their castles upon the ruins of opponents who in turn, have proven themselves unworthy of the call.
Discipline, persistence and an unrelenting physical presence will be our sword. Tradition, excellence and honor will be our shield. And when the final bell tolls, our young men will look across the field of fallen and claim victory once again.
And then, a silence will settle over the gathered crowd. As our opponent walks from the field, heads hung in the searing light of defeat, the bells will chime, the victorious will gather and face those who have come to support their cause. Together they will sing….”Oh come and sing Ohio’s praise.” And for that moment, the glories of the day will be transcended as voices both present and past will join in the exultation only to be broken by that golden tone, “Oooohhh–Hiiiii—-Ooooooo”
So arise men of Ohio for your destiny awaits!

Normally, I’d nuke stuff like this as spam but somehow it works.
Uh…… Jim…..”money changers”? It is getting kind of thick in here. New school vs old school ……
Don’t count your Buckeye chickens before they hatch.
Go Ducks!!
What do you mean. I thought that was a great Nike reference.
(Kind of thick…that’s an understatement. I left out all the “one more time unto the breach” and the “strip his sleeve and show his scars and say ‘These wounds I had on Crispian’s day.’ ” stuff.)
GAME TIME!!!!! WOO HOO ……… History is either built or created …….. and we will see it created today!!!
Go……DUCKS!!!
Huge First drive for the offense. OH
Ducks will make adjustments……..
What a great game. Back and forth and no stupid stuff just hard play and respect from both teams.
Go Buckeyes!!!!
Just a great game so far. Go Bucks!!
Tony,
hey buddy. This is me rubbing your face in my dirty nutts. I told you, you fat bald douche. 2010 is my year. Maybe next year will be yours. Cheers
clockwork
Nice representation of Buckeye nation. Try winning with a little class.
Aww Tony you don’t want to play anymore. I tried to warn you. Take it take it take it. Oh that welfare check you mentioned me waiting for, well it was actually my first time home buyers tax credit. Tony did I mention that your ducks were just owned by the Buckeyes?! Hahahahah! You are so lame. Now don’t ever comment on a buckeye blog again. Bye bye
I’m glad that you could finally afford that doublewide. The tax credit ……. came out of my pocket. So…..enjoy your “Obama money”.
Tony,
just like you were about your lame ducks you are also wrong about the doublewide. I know the money comes out of your pocket. That’s what makes it that much sweeter. Like my boy Lil Jon says, ” Only b*thes talk sh*t, only b*tches talk sh*t!” Let me know again when you would like me to dip them o. You again!
Uhm…remember what I was saying about the SEC fans?
I guess defense does beat offense. OH-IO
Yahoo!
Well, I did not think the Buckeyes could do it based on recent failures by the Big Ten, but they got the Ducks into their kind of game and were the better team. Congratulations. I think and hope the Ducks can come back strong, as they have few players, but Ohio State did what I did not think they could do and I give them all the credit in the world for it. Well done.
I meant to say the Ducks have few seniors….must be the beer talking. Happy New Year and congrats again.
Nice win for the Buckeyes and the Big Ten over the Pac-10. Penn State wins over the SEC and Northwestern gives another SEC team all they can handle. So much for our imagined loss of true speed. Go Bucks!! OH-IO
Clockwork…..I stand corrected ……. I can tell by the quality of your posts …….. I gave you too much credit and you certaintly could not afford a double wide. I hope you …… and your inflatable wife enjoy the new single wide.
Tony,
Wrong again baldy. Hope you enjoyed the beat down and the taste of my nutts. Baahahaha!
TIB-You have been a gracious poster on this site. Thanks for visiting us and sharing your thoughts on the game.
Now that Clock Work has posted (apparently a few beverages in), I’d like to apologize for him and anyone like him running shit. Even if he was even a little bit right about the game, personal nut rubbing shots are offensive to me and anyone on this blog.
That’s why I am embracing the new medical marijuana laws effective in Colorado. Maybe I will send Clock Work some. The new motto of fans in CO? Happy, Hungry, Sleepy. LA Cush and Pineapple Express…
This was a quality win for the Buckeyes today. I’m very proud of the way the team grew throughout the season and this game today was the icing on the cake. GO BUCKS!
Tony in Beavertown, what would you know about class, Your have been coming on the blog for over a month spreading your crap on how the ducks speed would have the Buckeye’s defense gasping for air in the fourth quarter. How superior the duck were in all aspects of the game, if I remember right your predicted a blow out something like 44-7. How the PAC ten was the better conference. I just wan’t to tell you your full of crap, and have no clue what a real football team looks like.
Lets recap, 26 first down to your 12, 266 passing yards to your 81, 419 total yards to your 260, time of possession 41 minuters to your 18, TP accounted for more yards than the ducks entire team. Do I need to go on, the ducks suck, suck, suck. I told you when our defensive front shut down the vaunted ducks running game, and they tried to pass, the Buckeye’s secondary would shut you passing game down but you would not believe me. What about know Tony and the rest of the duck fans. Total domination, come back and see us when you have a real team not a bunch of want to be’s. You can go back to Oregon with your big mouths between you legs.
What’s the story on the photo?
Circa???
I love it. Can you imagine seeing trees growing above the highest points of Ohio Stadium, or The Big House??
I sort of “borrowed” that from a story in a Sandusky Register which describes it as the winning kick of the 1950 Rose Bowl.
Here’s the caption that goes with it:
OSU wins the Rose Bowl Jan 2, 1950 . black and white file photo. Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS FILE PHOTO. With Dick Widdoes holding the ball and the stadium lights already turned on in the semi-darkness, end Jim Hague (left) swings his leg to send Ohio State’s game-winning field goal on its way toward three points and a ROSE BOWL VICTORY over California at Pasadena, Jan. 2, 1950. The kick, from the 18 yard line with fourth down and less than 2 minutes to go, gave the Bucks a 17 to 14 win. Charging Bears Frank Humport and Herb Schmalenberger (right) almost blocked the ball, which is just to the left of their outstretched arms.
That was a rematch of the 1921 game in which Ohio State was blown out by Cal. Curly Morrison ran 127 yards and was named MVP. Note the uniforms – look a lot like this year’s throw backs.
ahhhh…playing for that field goal.
I didn’t realize Tressel was the coach in 1950. I guess “if it ain’t broke….”.
