Buckeyes say they are ready for Camp Randall; Me, I just want to jump around!

by Annapolisbuckeye on October 1, 2008

The Columbus Dispatch reports this morning that the Ohio State coaching staff has been preparing the Buckeyes for an atmosphere like they have never seen before. Apparently, they put together a video with just a sampling of how crazy it can get in Wisconsin. You see, none of the Ohio State players have made the trip to Madison. The last time the Buckeyes faced the Badgers on their home turf was in 2003.

The good news is that in the story, Wells and others claim that they love playing in an atmosphere like this. I’ve got to believe them. Yeah, it may be tough but it’s got to be a fun place to visit. If you’re one of those players who thrives on the negative energy of the opposing fans, Camp Randall is the place to be.

Personally, I have got to experience the “Jump Around” in person before I die — 80,000 fans testing the structural integrity of a major stadium is what college football is all about.

Let’s take a moment to review some of the traditions that make Wisconsin a venue I’ve got to visit:

  • Engineering Department has studied the aerodynamic properties of a marshmallow
  • Even if it’s not scarlet, giant seas of red are pretty cool
  • Fans stick around after the game to sing a 1970s beer commercial
  • “OH”-”IO” has got nothing on “FU”-”Eat Sh..” (Google it)
  • Snowball fights from hell
  • They have taken the normally cliched stadium wave to unprecedented levels of technical precision
  • The energy of the “Jump Around” even though by third quarter, the tailgate buzz has to be wearing off

Wisconsin fans, if you’re out there, fill us in on any I’m missing below. The Penn State “White Out” has nothing on you guys.

Great post.

As a senior/seasoned-veteran, I can speak intelligently on how intimidating the Wisconsin student section can get.

I actually have no idea where the multiple marshmallow references are from, but most of the others are accurate.

One that you are missing is the “You F*CKED Up!” chant following every Ohio State penalty. The entire student section repeats the phrase more than a dozen times.

Should be a great game.

Oh, I must be showing my age here. Apparently, while the Wisconsin authorities will give in to Jump Around, they have silenced the flying marshmallows with nickles inside of them.

I clearly remember watching the game on T.V., seeing the end zone covered in marshmallows and hearing the commentators talking about the velocity at which the marshmallows were hitting the field. Don’t worry, Ohio State fans remember it well.

At least they were better than the batteries Wisconsin fans were throwing at one point.

Camp Randall is an extremely tough place to play.

Yeah their students get rowdy but think about it;

What the f*ck is there to do in Wisconsin besides going to a football game to get rowdy.

Even with their rowdy crowd they have no hop against the Buckeyes!

Go Bucks!

I have always been a fan of the way the students chant “Shoot ‘em like a horse!” when an opposing teams player is hurt on the field. I know its mean, but we still clap when they get up.

Speaking as a visitor (my brother is Wisconsin alumni for some ungodly reason), when I went to see the Ohio St. vs. Wisconsin game 5 years ago, I couldn’t believe to the extent of how uniform everything they did was. It can never be as grand as what we do in Buckeye Nation.

EX:
They have “BAD-GERS”
Ours is “O-H-I-O” – WAY cooler because each part of the stadium has their letter…and they yell it without remorse for the other team (like we should!)

LSU lucked out last season and their attempt at breaking our hearts by chanting “SEC” was done on every Ohio State supporter’s deaths ear.

We have it better, we do it better, and Camp Randall (as appealing it may be to most of the country) may have set well in the 3rd quarter, but we still came out on top 20-17. HA!
