The Ohio State Buckeyes Need Cal

With four Big Ten/Pac 12 games this weekend, it is about as important a weekend in Ohio State’s National Championship hunt that we are bound to see. With all the talk about one-loss SEC teams, a Big Ten sweep will bring some much needed respect to the Big Ten and the Ohio State Schedule.

Cal also plays a big role in our 2013 championship hunt. Not only do we need Cal to put on a good show as we shut down their passing game, we need to give them enough confidence that they don’t just fold in front of Oregon next weekend. A pending loss to Ohio State will be good for them as it will give them a chance to go up against a much better offense and face a much stronger defense before taking on Oregon and other members of their conference that will ultimately have much greater significance in the 2013 Cal season.

And Then There’s Alabama
Saturday will also give us a chance to see exactly what Alabama and Texas A & M are all about. Rice made it readily apparent that if Johnny the autograph get’s knocked out of the game, A & M is in serious trouble. I’m definatly not putting my money on an A&M undefeated season.

We will also give us a chance to see if Alabama really does have any right to the No. 1 position which they have been gifted.

Want to talk about weak schedules? If anyone in the national championship hunt has scheduling problems this year it’s Alabama. They’ve played one game against a freshman filled Virginia Tech. Other than this weekend’s game against Texas A & M, about the only other game they have which will give them any cred is LSU.

And yet there are still those out think that a conference filled with teams like this year’s Arkansas, Aurburn, Kentucky, Tennessee or Miss. State, all teams about on par with this year’s Northwestern at best, deserves to be exalted as the greatest conference in college football.

Need More Smack?
Don’t worry folks. I’ve got plenty more where this came from. I was asked by Yahoo this week to do one of those “Fan” blog type things where they pit me against a blogger from Cal and we talk about why our school is better?

WHile I talked about Ohio State’s long history and tradition and why this year’s team is going to give Cal some serious problems, Shawn Tsao, the editor of Cal Football Blog talked about Ohio State’s lack of a good hot dog stand and the scarcity of Ohio State players in the NFL.

Uhm…OK.

(I looked it up, Cal has 32 and we have 31).

You can see the entire thing here.

Jim – You shouldn’t have any problem beating Cal. Only Colorado is worse then them in the PAC-12. I think we will split the Pac12 vs Big10 games this weekend. UCLA and Washington will take wins for the Pac12 and tOSU and Wisc for the Big10. Although the Wisc game may go the other way.
