Seems about right
I’m not sure how this got past me earlier this week when I bitched about the Buckeyes getting screwed by the BCS but did anybody notice Nebraska sitting up there at No. 7?
Check me here to make sure I’m getting it right. Ohio State lost to Wisconsin (at Wisconsin) which is ranked No. 6 and beat Miami which dropped out of the top 25 last week. Miami’s struggles have ultimately weakened the Buckeyes schedule resulting in LSU jumping over Ohio State in the rankings. Nebraska beat No. 12 ranked Missouri and No. 17 Oklahoma but LOST TO TEXAS!!! AT HOME
Let me say that again in case you missed it…
NEBRASKA LOST TO TEXAS!! AT HOME!
Sure, in past years losing to Texas was somewhat acceptable as they were usually a top-ten ranked team. This week however, they aren’t even in the top 25. They didn’t even receive any votes in any of the polls.
Just so I’m clear…in the eyes of the BCS, beating a team that later loses to Virgina is somehow worse than losing to a 4-4 team that’s lost to the likes of Iowa State, UCLA and Baylor?!
But why so angry NaptownB?
I’m sorry Nebraska but when you lose to a team that loses to teams like Iowa State, Baylor and UCLA, all at home, you don’t get to play in the National Championship game. You’re out. Somebody else’s turn.
But that’s not the way this might work out. Nebraska finishes off the season with Iowa State, Kansas, Texas A&M, and Colorado. Not the most difficult schedule. Meanwhile, we know that either Auburn or Alabama and Utah or TCU are going to lose at least one game. The loser of Utah/TCU will be out of the top Ten moving Nebraska up a spot. If Alabama loses to LSU this weekend (or the SEC championship), they’ll also drop back. If Auburn loses to Alabama, especailly if Bama loses to LSU, they’ll drop back at least past Nebraska even though they are in the SEC.
By next Sunday, Nebraska could be sitting in the No. 5 position. That leaves Boise, Oregon and the winners of the above games. One or two more loses and Nebraska could find themselves the top-ranked one-loss team on their way to Glendale come January. Even after losing to Texas, at home.
Wisconsin beat a No. 1 ranked team, lost to a top ten team and probably doesn’t stand a chance of getting to the BCS championship game.
Meanwhile the Buckeyes, who lost to No. 6 Wisconsin and beat Miami, are in 11th fighting to break a Big 10 tie that will be based on the BCS rankings.
Bring in the Feds
What do you do when you realize that even with a No. 5 ranking you don’t stand a chance in hell of going to the big dance? Sue the bastards, what else? At least that’s what Utah is trying to do. The Utah AG is talking to the dept. of justice about bringing an anti-trust suit against the BCS.
Big East (10?)
Big East is out hunting for two more football schools. They announced Tuesday that they are looking to expand to ten. Schools mentioned include TCU, Central Florida, Villanova, Houston and even Notre Dame have been mentioned as possible candidate. UCF and Houston claim they know nothing. Apparently they enjoy beating up on Memphis.
What’s this going to do the Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl? (Did you know they give away free tickets over there? I know the blogger personally.)
Rodriguez cleared
NCAA has dropped the charges against Rodriguez. Apparently it’s obvious that the extra practice hasn’t helped them one bit.
Speaking of Notre Dame
Although I rarely miss an opportunity to kick Notre Dame, I’ve intentionally let this one go. The more I read about this however, the more upsetting it becomes. Last week Declan Sullivan, a student at Notre Dame, was killed when a portable “scissor” tower blew over in high winds during practice. Sullivan was in the tower filming football practice at the time. Apparently, the conditions were sever enough that Sullivan sent out a tweet joking about the conditions.
From what I’ve read so far, all signs point to a death that could have been avoided. CFN has some good commentary on the situation here and here. I’ll let you sort through it and decide for yourself.

There’s still a lot of football to be played and these things usually work themselves out. The Buckeyes cannot control anyone’s fate but their own and that’s where the focus needs to be… winning out. If (or should I say when) that happens, let the chips fall where they may. Strange things do tend to occur in the final couple of weeks of the season (I think that’s why they actually play the games) and this year should be no exception. GO BUCKS!!
Great point and all were understood too well. It’s like beating that dead horse, or talking to the wall, when trying to make sense oof this BCS shit. The pollsters and Computers have their favoites. Look at the so-called experts on the BCS show every Sunday. They all have a diferent opinnion of who should be ranked where. We all know computers only spit out whats put in, they say what you want them to say. so relax take a chill pill and let it come out in the wash.
What about Stanford? Their only loss is the the number one team in the country and the computers hate them.
LSU is 6th in the computer polls, but luckily some of the voters actually watched some of their games, because they definitely don’t deserve that ranking.
Alabama lost to a 2 loss South Carolina team who got beat by 5 loss Kentucky!
Nebraska lost to a pitiful Texas team.
Wisconsin lost to an weak scheduled Michigan State team (who got beat by an equally weak Iowa).
And Missouri lost to a team that lost to a Texas team who got crushed by UCLA.
I’m pretty sure the computers are fixed.

Yeah…sorry about that Dustin. I’m having some sort of problem with the website making it appear that you haven’t posted the comment. Hopefully, I’ll have it fixed soon. (granted I can figure out what’s actually causing the problem.
Just testing to see if the problem is fixed now.
Apparently not.

Dustin …….. Please quit stuttering
So I predict the Bucks will move up to 8 in the polls. Unless some genius puts Stanford ahead of us…
@Not Alan …… Ohio State lost to #9 Wisconsin ….who lost to #14 MichState …… who lost to #16 Iowa ….. Who lost to #15 Arizona. Stanford beat Arizona 42-17. Stanfords only loss comes at the hands of undefeated #1 Oregon. I am not a genius ….. but ranking Stanford above Ohio State has some merit.
Nebraska also beat undefeated BCS #11 OK State on the road, undefeated AP 19 K-State on the road and BCS #6 Mizzou, they lost 20-13 to Texas not a blow out. Ohio State beat a overrated Miami team early in the year then lost to the only team they played this year in Wisconsin, you have to admit OSU hasn’t played anyone, they didn’t play Michigan State and still have to play a tough Iowa team. Ohio State played Marshall, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indian, Purdue and Minnesota and lost to Wisconsin and you want to be ranked ahead of Nebraska??? Beat some decent teams for gods sake, even Michigan played a tougher schedule this year.
Please Briana. You’re bragging about Nebraska beating an “undefeated” K-State? If you’re going to use that logic, Miami was not only ranked higher (No. 12) but they were undefeated when we played beat them. Missouri beat what was apparently an “overrated” Oklahoma, then lost to Texas Tech.
You have to admit, Nebraska hasn’t really played anyone. Western Kentucky, Idaho, Washington, South Dakota State, Kansas State, and barely got past Iowa State? The only team they played this year was Texas…at home and they lost! They still have to play relatively tough Kansas and Colorado games. Beat some decent teams for God’s sake. Even Boise State has a better chance of justifying their spot in the rankings than you.
I’m really looking forward to seeing Nebraska in the Big Ten.
Before long, you’re going to be telling me Iowa State belongs in the top ten.
Stanford at #6 ……..I am no genius ….. well maybe I am,
My initial problem was the Coaches Poll after the loss. Ohio State found themselves falling ten places. While Alabama, who lost under similar conditions the week before slipped six slots and Nebraska hardly got penalized for losing to a dogshit Texas team.
Ohio State, if I’m correct, has only failed against the spread once all season… their loss to a ranked team.
Whereas, Nebraska, failed to meet expectations once AGAIN after this weekend. One point win over Iowa State in overtime is really convincing me that they should be ranked ahead of Ohio State right now. Child, please.
The problem is stretched to Oklahoma State/Nebraska. They’ll likely meet for the Big 12 title and unless they get up-ended before then, the winner will be surely ranked ahead of Ohio State. Expect seven or eight other teams to lose right now besides the Big 12 winner is a lot to pray for, but I accepted that it might not be possible for Ohio State to get into the Natty discussion a long time ago. Just like Michigan in 2006, they had their chance in the palm of their hands.
Or in Michigan’s case, in the crown of Crable’s helmet.
At least Nebraska went undefeated every time they won a National Title, Stupid Ohio State claims the 1970 national title even though they LOST THE ROSE BOWL! You can’t win a National Title if you lose your bowl game, I would be embarrassed if Nebraska claimed the 1983 National Title even though they lost the Orange Bowl that year, and the same Poll that named OSU champions in 1970 named Nebraska champions in 83. You see at Nebraska we have enough pride in ourselves to not claim bogus National Titles even though we could grub them like OSU. Maybe that’s why voters tend to place Nebraska ,who BTW has won 3 NC in the last 17 years to OSU 1 on a fake pass interference call vs Miami, a higher ranking than overrated cry baby Ohio Fake.
Really Briana? That’s the best you’ve got? You’ve got to go all the way back to the 70s? And you want to rehash the pass interference? Search this site, you’ll see my response and the evidence to prove. Ohio State got called for pass interference on the next possession giving Miami ball on one–they couldn’t push it in.
But again, none of that has anything to do with this year’s rankings. Texas lost another horrendous game this Sat. How can you possibly say that a home loss to Texas (who may not even get to a bowl game) is somehow better than an away loss to a Wisconsin?
Yell and scream about the Woody era all you want, it does nothing to justify your ranking.
Thankfully, we won’t have to worry about you being ranked in the top ten once you get to the Big Ten.
