Miami Players Deemed Inelegible, Former Toledo Players Face Point Shaving Investigation

by Annapolisbuckeye on August 26, 2011

Two of Ohio State’s early season opponents are facing serious charges that could have a huge impact on their lineup when they face the Buckeyes. While we all knew about Miami’s pending charges (years ago), Miami has ruled as many as 13 players ineligible including quarterback Jacory Harris. According to ESPN.com, the declaring ineligibility doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t be able to play and all players are still practicing with the team. The NCAA must now make a decision regarding reinstatement or any penalties that must be served.

Regardless of the results, Miami is in a turmoil and it’s doubtful they will be back to full strength by the time the Buckeyes travel south.

Meanwhile, NBC Sports is reporting that former Toledo running back Harvey McDougal has plead guilty to a point shaving scheme. Three other Toledo athletes have been named in the scheme. NBC further reports that Former football player Quinton Broussard has admitted to that he was paid to intentionally drop the ball in the 2005 GMAC Bowl.

Anyone who’s followed college football for the past 10 years can’t be surprised by the Miami allegations but Toledo? Really?

This is getting old folks. Unfortunately, I think we’ve passed the point of no return. There is too much money in the sport and everyone profits except for the players on the field (except for a free college degree and free training for a multi-million dollar career).

Kind of takes all the fun out of it, doesn’t it? You’re right though, sadly, this kind of madness has reached a point of no return, just like everything else in todays society.

In a day and age where crooked polititians, gang violance, war, greed, price gouging at the pump, homosexuality and child sex pretty much rule the roost, what else did you expect?

We might all do well just to pick up a bible every now and then and start taking things a little bit more seriously.

Not trying to preach, just a friendly reminder.
