Fake Ref/Naked Guy Leads to UCLA/Arizona Fight

by Annapolisbuckeye on October 21, 2011

What do you do when there are only a few seconds left on the clock and your team is up by 42-7 at the half? Stop the play, take off your cloths and let the fight begin. I mean really, what else would you do?

Without question, the highlight of last night’s Arizona/UCLA game if not the entire Pac 12 season came with just a few seconds left in the first half. In a move that is destined for the stadium streaker hall of fame, as the two teams lined up for the last play of the half a soon to be naked guy ran out onto the field dressed as a referee  blowing a whistle leading to a stop in play. He then proceeded to disrobe and do what stadium streakers do.

Not to be outdone by a common streaker, UCLA receiver Taylor Embree and Arizona cornerback Shaquille Richardson decided to make the most of the situation audition for You Think You Can Dance.

Embree and Arizona were suspended for the rest of the game and maybe more. No word on the Ref/Naked guy.

Update

I just found the video below taken from the stands. Apparently the streaker’s name is Jace Lankow. Drop him a note on Twitter and share your admiration at @whoisjacen. Video doesn’t show the fight but does show our man Jace walking past the band in his skivies as the crowd chants U of A, U of A.

All I can think of is the old adage “It takes all Kinds”.

“a soon to be naked guy ran out onto the field”

I have watched the video several times and, although indeed the behavior of Jace Lankow looks like that of a streaker, I am not sure, from what I have seen on the video, that his intent was to go to full nude, had he had the time a few seconds more. Maybe getting the attention on him in speedos was enough.

I hope that the charges he faces now, will be reduced to a minimum, taking into account that he is a young 22 years old student whose life should not be broken for that unusual and sexy plus that that young Modern Apollo brought to the public. Life is too precious and too short.

No, you’re right. He strips down to his speedo and I think that was his intention. If you look at his twitter profile, his profile picture had him in the same speedo (I assume). That may have changed and to be honest, I’m not going back for a second look.

The entire thing was just so chaotic. I’m sure there he is destined to go down in the history book of some fraternity somewhere.

Jim,
This is hardly the highlight of the PAC12 season. Arizona was 0-3 (PAC12 record) going into this game and needed a win. UCLA isn’t much better with a 2-2 record themselves. Neither one of these teams are relevant in the conference and this is about the only way either one of them could get any national attention. Arizona fired coach Bob Stoops a few weeks ago and UCLA’s Neuheisel is right behind him. If both teams showed as much passion and tenacity on the field as they did trying to fight each other …… maybe they would win more games. Both teams are a joke and a bad representation of the PAC12.
