Al Joad: Ain’t you gonna look back, Ma? Give the ol’ place a last look?
Ma Joad: We’re going’ to California, ain’t we? All right then let’s go to California.
Al Joad: That don’t sound like you, Ma. You never was like that before.
Ma Joad: I never had my house pushed over before. Never had my family stuck out on the road. Never had to lose everything I had in life.
Colorado announced yesterday that they will be joining the Pac 10 effectively bringing down the house of cards that has become the Big 12. With the announcement comes this morning’s story on TMZ that Oklahoma State will also head west to the Pac 12.
And as we all await Nebraska’s announcement this afternoon that they will join the Big 10, expect the rest of the Big 12 South to fall into place following their predecessors down the mother highway to the land of milk and honey.
Although Missouri (who apparently hasn’t heard from the Big 10) has pipe dreams of holding the Big 12 together, don’t count on it. Don’t worry Missouri…it will all be over soon.

Land of milk and honey? Don’t your mean silicone and tanning oil?
Literary allusion
Buckstradamus-So how does usc’s sanctions impact their incoming recruits for the 2010 season? They signed letters of intent. But, if they haven’t officially started classes in the Spring or this Summer and they have received no scholarship money, could they walk on their scholarship and head to another scholl without penalty from the NCAA?
Assuming the NCAA sanctions stick after the appeals process, the 2010 usc recruits will never play for a NC and likely won’t ever play in a BCS bowl (that might have happened anyway with Lane Kiffin there).
So why would Seantral Henderson want to stay there? Lane Kiffin? The Silicone and Tanning Oil? Come back to the Midwest Seantral.
Pac 11 is not impressed with the addition of Colorado. Their program has been mediocre at best for the last decade. I like the idea of super conferences though. Lets get rid of the BCS and create a playoff type system. No longer would the Ducks be ranked #2 nationally ….. but get snubbed out of the championship game. This Pac16 would make it even more difficult for an Oregon team to win a NC ….. but ….. I like competitive football and playing the Texas teams a few times a year would be fun. The Ducks would have to change their recruiting stategy and look fo much bigger players to match up with Texas ….. this will be very interesting.

Not so fast, TIB. Funny I found this article after I wrote my post… http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_15273468
Living 100 yards from the Peoples Republic of Boulder County Line (aka the land of nuts and, well, nuts), I can tell you that CO is pretty happy to be out of the Big 12 starting from the alumni, administration, coaches, and sports reporters (except good old Woody Paige).
Ever since Gary Barnett got fired for making fun a “girl” kicker, the CU motto has been “Striving for Mediocrity”. Their game has been stuck between the power game that NE, OK, and TX has historically played and the more wide open game like Tech, Mizzou and KS has played. Coach Hawkins has historically recruited on the Left coast, Tonga and Samoa where as Barnett recruited heavily in the Midwest leaning toward a power game. The overlap of players simply didn’t allow Hawkins to run the wide open offense like he did he ran at Boise State. I honestly thought that if you give Hawkins 5 years he would have the program turned around. I think this move helps CO a quite a bit assuming that Hawkins is the coach in 3 years and/or his replacement adopts the PAC 11/16 offensive mentality. TX and OK will be ok in the PAC 10 because they’ll have the speed out of TX and they’ll steal some more out of LA, FL and CA.
CO can continue to promote their beautiful campus, their ethnic diversity and their academic excellence and, oh, errr, wait…they can continue to promote their beautiful campus nestled along the beautiful Flat Iron foothills and 300 days of sunshine.

Masoli is over the age of 18. Why didn’t he just get his OMMP Card (Oregon Medical Marijuana Program). At least he would have been showing some responsibility so he could have possessed his stash to take care of his bruised body and inflated ego
.
Come to think of it, I guess Masoli could always come to CU to QB…
As I said Alan …… This is not an impressive pick up for Pac10. This will not do anything to strengthen the PAC10 schedule. Basically we have another “Washington State” whoopee. I am sure that CO is happy to get out of their conference ….. because …… they suck. I lost all respect for that team when they hired Rich Neuhiesel as their coach. Same for UCLA for that matter …… I will go a little further …… I have been a die hard Seahawks fan for 35 years ….. I’m now looking for a new team to root for ….. Thanks Pete “the cheat” Carroll. Nebraska to the Big10 is a great move for your conference. I do not think the “super conferences” will dilute/eliminate the Ohio/Mich rival game though. They will find a way to keep these important games on the schedule. This is good for college football. The big question is ….. where do the TX teams go. They will determine who eventually has the most powerful conference.
Sure, you’ll always have OSU/Michigan but what has always helped make this such a great rival is that it is always the last game of the season and traditionally, there was so much riding on it.
Not much can compare to an Ohio State/Michigan Rose Bowl game. When we go to 12 (or more) teams, suddenly it’s a Ohio State/Michigan game for the right to play in the Big 10 championship.
Not Alan …… great question.
Yeah, I’ve been wondering about Henderson in particular. I don’t think they are bound by letter of intent or anything. The other question is, does Ohio State have any scholarships left to offer?
It looks like USC is facing the loss of 15 scholarships per year and banned for two post-seasons. The bowls might not be that big of an impact but the loss of scholarships could affect them for the next four years.
That means that for Henderson, he’s not playing in a Bowl game (unless they win on appeal) until he’s a junior. It also means that unless his class is really, really good, they probably won’t be in the national championship hunt and maybe not even a BCS bowl hunt while he’s there.
You can’t tell me that doesn’t have an impact the future of incoming USC freshmen with visions of the NFL in their eyes.
I can’t believe Rodriguez isn’t sweating balls right about now.
I don’t think Colorado does anything for the Pac 10 other than start the chain of events to come although they might make a good match for USC Texas, Oklahoma and the rest of the south however…
I hear you Tony on Masoli and have to give Kelly credit. Kelly didn’t recruit these guys and he’s handled both the Blount situation and this one well.
My biggest problem with super conferences is that it throws a wrench in the Ohio State/Michigan game. At this point, no matter what happens, something special will be lost.
Unlike the SEC for example, the Buckeyes have done a good job of scheduling at least one tough out of conference opponent. Those scheduling decisions may have kept the Buckeyes out of a couple of BCS games that they probably would have played if they hadn’t taken on the big team.
My frustration is that with Texas headed west, we get Nebraska (which can be a tough team) and who else? Rutgers? Pittsburgh? WVU? Sure, they have their moments but I want regular season games against the toughest opponents the Buckeye can line up.
Keeping up with this chaos is insane…and making me incredibly unproductive.
Check out this one…KCTV out of Kansas City is saying that Texas and Texas A&M are heading to the Big Ten, Oklahoma wants to join the SEC and SEC is offering invitations to A&M and Virginia Tech.
At this point, I’m not believing anything until it’s official.
Give me NE, TX and Tech or ND (not North Dakota).
I can live with that. Otherwise, NE, ND, and Maryland, Pitt or WVU.
I want either Texas or ND in the deal. I like NE. No interest in MD. Pitt and WVU are interesting because of geography only. ND needs to find a way back to their glory days though.
Looks like Boise State will join the Mountain West conference…… Good for them. They have a solid program. I just hope that they lose their “smurf turf”. I get sea sick everytime I try to watch one of their games …….. (read: not good for television revenues).

That was about the only hope for the Big 12. No surprise though.
Great comments from Orlando Florida …… some of the comments are hilarious. This is obviously a very respected writer.

Thanks Tony. How’s a blogger to keep up?
LOL ….. Sorry Jim. Slow day as a Logistics guy I guess.
Although I’m looking for it now, can’t confirm it anywhere yet. I think Collegefootball.com is just trying to get the jump.
I think the board of regents is still meeting and hasn’t officially announced it yet. http://www.huskers.com is broadcasting a live feed of the meeting if you really want to sit in on it. There’s a note running across the top saying that portions of the meeting will be held in closed session.
Here’s the feed: http://www.huskers.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?catid=0
Not sure who’s talking now but the discussion is about staying in the Big 12.
hmm…he’s talking about the advantages of going to The Big 10. Also mentioned recruiting in Texas? And he’s talking about travel time.
I think he’s from Nebraska.
