Buckeyes Take on Iowa; This is the One We’ve Been Waiting For

by Annapolisbuckeye on November 18, 2010

Predict the score and win one of these prizes.

This year’s Ohio State vs. Iowa game has been circled on the calendars since Devin Barclay kicked a 39 yard field goal in overtime to send the Buckeyes to the Rose Bowl. Since I’ve got a lot to talk about with this game and not much time to do it, here’s what I would have talked about and still may if I were to actually expand on this post. I’m looking to you on this one to fill in the blanks in the comments below.

Predict and Win
Let’s get this out of the way first. A couple of different prizes this week from our friends at Gametimegeeks.com. Winner get’s their choice. A number of you have left predictions on other posts on the blog but for no other reason than to keep my sanity, transfer them over here to the comments below. Make them clear and easy to find folks.

Angry Tressel
I got an email this morning with more details on Coach Tressel’s half-time tirade. Don’t know how much is true and since I have no way to verify it, in true blogger fashion, I’ll pass it along anyway–at least key parts. Apparently it was posted on Bucknuts.

Apparently Tress came into the locker room really really pissed. He calmly asked the recruits to leave and requested a glass of water from a student assistant. The hapless student returned with GatorAde. In his anger, Tress knocked the glass from her hand screaming, “I’ve got a room full of football players that are not doing much right, dont tell me I have student assistants not doing things right…GET ME A GLASS OF WATER NOW.”

He grills the captains asking them if the coaches fail. One by one the captains admit that they are blowing it. Tressel goes on for about 7-8 minutes ending by telling then that thanks to they, he has to go to church tomorrow.

And while I won’t post the entire email I received here (maybe later), My favorite quote in the email,
“We are not losing this game. Absolutely not. Every single time we lose to that team, t-shirts are made. Not here, not today.”

Best part of it all, according to the email, after the game Tressel called in the athletic assistant he yelled at and gives her the game ball.

Only 3 points!
Really? Win or lose this game, I don’t see it as a close one. Either the Buckeyes play like Tressel knows they can and they blow them out or the Buckeyes come out flat and fall on their face. There is no middle ground.

Which Pryor will we see
When he’s on he’s on. When he’s not, it sucks. A lot of the credit here goes to the offensive line. We also saw a new running game last week that we haven’t seen in the past. Would be really nice if we can get top performances out of both Pryor and Boom.

I want more!!
Pick six baby. The Buckeye defense is becoming one of our best scoring weapons. I don’t think Stanzi can keep up for four quarters. Pressure him hard and hit him again. He’ll give up the turnovers.

Anything else? Post them below.

I agree with the columnist. For college kids, it is about “Who wants it more?” Pryor and Posey were heard saying “We need to leave a Legacy.” Herron has become the featured back, and I hear he sparks the huddle. Dane now has done the Rope-A-Dope for a game, so now ‘Game Film Terrelle’ has an idea where the “safety valve” will be, guaranteed.

Oh, and don’t tell me the Vest didn’t LIKE the “shout ‘n rout” —- it is a release for him from the public persona he feels he needs to maintain …. ;)

BUCKEYES – 35

I would like to see a blow out like I posted yesterday. The way IOWA plays could be dictated by last weeks loss. This really isn’t a big rivelry game or trophy, bucket, or axe game. I think 27 to 14 Buckeyes.

I just want to point out the emphasis for special teams to be ready for this game. Remembering last year, we blew the game open only to let Iowa’s Koulianos (sp?) zip one back for the touchdown that gave paramount to a tied ball game. I also think this is the point where our special teams play began to meltdown coming in to this year, because if you also remember… we also had severe issues containing Kenjon Barner from Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Of course, no one thought anything of it at the time because they were both MAJOR victories. When it happens against Marshall though, that’s when people curiously began to panic about it.
