Buckeyes enter midseason against Bowling Green Falcons

by Annapolisbuckeye on October 7, 2006

Well, the day is here and we enter into something of a midseason opponent drought as we wait for the big one with Michigan. In past years (ie. the Cooper years), these would be dangerous games–those games that jump up and bite you when you least expect it.

That was a different coach and these are different times. Tressel will use the opportunity to improve and build the program.

Today’s game against Bowling Green will be what it is. I also have no problem with Ohio State playing these games against in-state teams. I don’t know the exact number but the Bowling Green Athletic Department will base their annual budget on the income brought in from this one game.

With the schedule so far, as long as Ohio State does not struggle from here on out, we should have no problem holding the #1 ranking up to Michigan. MSU away may make for a game because who knows what to expect from MSU. However, the Buckeyes have the players, coaching and character that will overwhelm MSU no matter how well they play.

As for today’s game, the biggest question probably becomes the 35 point spread. Although the Bucks have cleared the spread every game this season, I don’t know if I would count on it today. When a team is favored by that much, the score really becomes a coaching decision. Tressel has too much class and respect for a fellow Ohio school to run the scoreboard.

However, if BG, a young team, cannot stop the second string players, it could easily happen. Players getting late game time are players looking to prove themselves and there is only so much you can do to hold them back.

If you want a full preview of the game, check out theBuckeye Planet. As usual, they have the depth that I only wish I had the time to write.

I don’t think I will get the game here in MD today but I may listen on the net. I thought that maybe I would actually get something done today but naturally, it is cold and raining. A perfect day for college football.

At least, while I speak, Auburn is struggling with Arkansas and my wife just came in to tell me that Ark scored again (beginning of the third). Step one of my #1 OSU vs #2 Michigan is falling into place. When Florida falls to LSU this afternoon, the only school standing in the way will be USC.

Go Huskies!!!
