Buckeye Season Opens with New Tradition; This is Going to Take Some Practice!

by Annapolisbuckeye on August 27, 2012

If you’ve been watching ESPN’s Ohio State All Access, you’ve seen Ohio State strength coach Mickey Marotti lead the “quick cals.” The quick precision and high intensity of the drill along with its emphasis on quick reactions is exciting to watch. However, that perception may be about to change as we witness the introduction of a new Ohio State tradition.

At this Saturday’s Ohio State Kickoff celebration, Coach Marotti announced that at approximately 23 minutes before the start of the game, the Ohio State players will join students in the South Stands for a run through of the quick cal. And although it may take a few games for this to truly catch on I can’t wait to see 100,000 people do this before the Michigan game.

The video below taken at the UFM Town Hall Meeting makes it look somewhat challenging but as you can see the in the second video by TheOzone.net, the students quickly caught on to the intensity of the drill.

This is going to be good.

Really, Buckeye fans WTF looks like a comedy routine. Is this the best they could come up with?

(I just realized I failed to post the Ozone.net video – sorry)

I don’t agree and the more I watch it the more I like it. Look at the students in the bottom video. They are having a blast and they are intense about it.

What makes this work is that like the singing of the Alma Matter, it creates another connection between the students and the team (and ultimately the fans).

I see a huge internet meme coming on as Buckeye fans around the country (world) share videos of their “quick cals.”

Nope. There is nothing about Robo Duck that compares to this in any way, shape or form.

Yeah, Robo Duck is another level of its own. It’s not like the students are hatching from eggs before doing the quick cals.

I’m glad I graduated. Trying to keep up with this shit while totally plastered would be a nightmare.

@ (PKaNAaPA) I must admit that the Haka is bad ass. But, Quick Cals is NO Haka. There is nothing intimidating about the little hand movements of Quick Cals. I applaud the coaching staff for trying to get the student body / fans involved. But this just isn’t the answer….. I would strongly recommend someone pull Urban Meyer aside and ask him to stop this insanity.
