Five Posts I Intended to Write but Didn’t

by Annapolisbuckeye on January 25, 2011

Ever have one of those weeks? Seeing as how the list of intended blog posts is getting longer and longer, I figured I’d hit on them here in one quick swoop. So I give you the headlines with a quick summary of the post never written.

1) Buckeyes Beat Illinois, Pass First in Series of Tests
Buckeyes pull out a close one in a back and forth game in a very tough environment. Going in, you could see that this was not going to be like the previous Iowa pushover. Illini fans had camped out in the cold since 11 p.m. the night before and they were ready to go.

Of course, being the good father that I am, I had to take the kids to Saturday activities and tuned in on the DVR to watch the game. Naturally, the game ran late — about 46 seconds late to be precise. DVR stopped recording just as Illini pulled to within one with less than a min or so left in the game. As I understand, Buckeyes scored again and forced a turnover to win the game.

2) Ohio State Takes on Purdue
Buckeyes are back home to take on 12th ranked Purdue. Test number two against ranked teams will help secure that No. 1 ranking. 21-0 is nothing to gripe about either.

Buckeyes haven’t lost a game at home since they lost to Purdue at the Schott last year. Game’s on ESPN tonight at 9 pm.

3) Raven’s Defensive Coordinator Goes to Michigan
Noting that there might be a few deficiencies in the Michigan Defense, newly appointed head coach Brady Hoke has hired Raven’s defensive coordinator Greg Mattison. Maybe the Wolverines couldn’t get Harbaugh but at least they got a guy who coached with his brother.

4) Schlegel’s Coaching the Buckeyes
Former Ohio State linebacker Anthony Schlegel has joined the Ohio State coaching staff in the weight room. More on that here. Good to see them recruiting from within.

5) Buckeyes 20/1 Odds for Winning 2011 BCS National Championship
Bodog.com recently announced odds for the 2011 BCS National Championship game. I think this came out before the announcement that all five suspended juniors are coming back and I don’t know what sort of impact this had (if any) on the odds. (This dates back to Jan 13 when I received the press release.)

Here’s the top 15 according to Bodog.com
Oklahoma 7/2
Alabama 15/2
Florida State 10/1
Boise State 12/1
LSU 12/1
Oregon 14/1
Florida 15/1
Nebraska 18/1
Penn State 20/1
TCU 20/1
Ohio State 20/1
Texas 20/1
Stanford 25/1
Virginia Tech 28/1
Wisconsin 28/1

(Penn State…really?)

You’ve got the topics…talk amongst yourselves.

There seems to be a lot of coaches leaving the NFL for College. Could be the uncertainty of the CBA has something to do with it.
20 to 1 isn’t bad for losing 20 plus players. If the NCAA reduces the amount of games the tat5 miss they could be back for the Miami game.
Buckeyes basketball is doing great, don’t want to jinx them by talking to much.
