If you don’t live in Florida, you may have missed it but Brutus T. Buckeye (along with a little…actually a lot of help from Nike) has thrown down the gauntlet. In a recent Nike commercial, Brutus, an angry, yet strangely perky cheerleader and a handful of students challenge University of Florida students to run more miles in the month of January.
Apparently, thanks to Nike, the loosing school will have to put up a statue of the other school’s mascot in the middle of campus. I really hate to imagine what may happen to a Florida Gator effigy if by some chance, it does get placed in the middle of the Ohio State campus. Maybe they will go with the middle of West Campus. Then it might stand a chance. The Oval…no way.
Right now, Florida leads the goal setting by a hundred or so miles. However, if everyone at Ohio State commits to just one mile during the month of January, that would equal something like 50,000 miles. Florida won’t stand a chance.
If you’re a glutton for this type of thing, you can get in on the fun at the Nike challenge website.
Update:In case you missed it, the Gator statue didn’t fare to well on the Ohio State campus. See the film here.

All respect and love to my peeps… but it was stupid crap like this that fired up the Gators.
I couldn’t agree more. I only found out about this when I was contacted by a marketing company representing Nike. I asked about a Florida version of the commercial to run in Columbus. They didn’t do one.
I hope Nike enjoys the deal.
Florida won! Where’s that Gator statue?
Maybe it’s in the campus of the Nike headquarters. Just remember, it’s freezing in Columbus.
Did they run more miles Ryan? Really?
Tebow Rules!
