Beanie….Well, don’t count on straight story until opening kickoff

Benie Wells ready to play

At this point, there is no question that somebody is playing games with the word on Beanie Wells. First report this morning was that Beanie looked “Ok” in practice and things were looking optimistic. By afternoon, all bets were off as Coach Tressel was listing him as “doubtful” for Saturdays big game.

At this point, don’t expect to hear a straight story. By afternoon, ESPN et all were reporting that Beanie was most likely out for Saturday’s game but if you read the Columbus Dispatch report this afternoon, Tressel has left plenty of room for reading between the lines. Just remember, when Beanie comes out on the field in a wheel chair, leg in a boot with the team dropping to one knee for pregame prayers in a circle around their fallen warrior, don’t be surprised when at some crucial moment in the game, Beanie suddenly come out of the huddle, blindsiding USC as Pryor hand him the ball and lets him run zig zags against that overrated, out of position USC tackle Fili Mola.

Don’t forget, for all the talk about Mola, he didn’t make any tackles against Virgina. He claims it has something to do with liking the Ohio State “style” better than Virgina. Oh, and he sat our of practice Wednesday due to back spasms.

As for the idea that Tressel may be sandbagging, I’m not the only one who seems to think so. Comments coming out of the Buckeye coaching staff would pretty much suggest that they’ve got something up their sleeve.

So don’t spend your day trying to get the news on Beanie. I would bet we see at least three more versions of the “He’s in/He’s out” story before the day is up. Keep ‘em guessing. Hit ‘em hard. Don’t let them see your hand.
